A storm has kept two boats carrying 44 pro-Palestinian activists from setting off for Gaza on Wednesday, delaying their journey until Friday, the Free Gaza Movement, which organized the vessels, said.
"We have been quite nicely surprised that these two small boats carrying 44 people are making such an impression around the international community," she added.
The Navy said in a statement that it does not discuss its preparations publicly.

Defense officials favor forcefully blocking two boats which a group of U.S.-based activists plan to sail to Gaza to protest what they call "the Israeli siege on the Strip," Haaretz has learned.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Israel is within its rights to use force against the seafarers.

Yes, in an interview the activists gave to phileleftheros newspaper, where the activists said that they would be leaving from some port of Cyprus which they wanted to keep secret as in their previous attempt they were stopped by israeli officials before leaving.
Good on them, I think most of Cyprus is with them. Perhaps not officially because the government does not want to harm the relations built with Israel. |

Now this isn’t such a big surprise to find that members of the Free Gaza group, an organized front group of the International Solidarity Movement is being aided by neo-Communist Cyprus. In which case, Cyprus has recently come under the control of the Communist Progressive Party of Working People where its General Secretary has been elected as President.
What the MSM doesn’t mention is that Free Gaza is an ISM front group which works closely with members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). MSM, also describes Gaza to be “controlled” by Hamas even when these Hamas leaders are openly welcoming members of a PLO-ISM front roup known as Free Gaza. All this exposes that Gaza may not be controlled by Hamas leaders, but secretly by the PLO. It’ll also throw out those Islamist rhetoric from Hamas leaders as being a fluke against the PLO, and the “divide” between the two groups is really designed to entrap israel in a Gaza-quagmire while Hamas terrorists seemingly are able to acquire rockets to fire into Israeli cities.

Gaza volunteers postpone mercy mission until next month
By Jean Christou
THE FREE Gaza volunteers have had to postpone a second planned sailing to Gaza for several weeks, they said yesterday.
The international delegation of doctors, parliamentarians and human rights workers were due to set sail from Larnaca yesterday aboard the SS hope. Passengers on board were to include Jamal Zahalka, a member of the Israeli Knesset, Dr Mustafa Barghouti, the General Secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative and Mairead Maguire, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976 for her work in Belfast.
However yesterday the group, which successfully accomplished a mission to Gaza in August, regretfully announced a delay in their plan to go back.
“Last month, 44 ordinary people challenged Israel’s stranglehold on the Gaza Strip, knowing that ordinary people can help create extraordinary change,” said press representative Greta Berlin. “People said that it could not be done; we did it.”
This week 22 more volunteers arrived in Cyprus to fulfil Free Gaza’s promise to return.
However because the two original boats were not suitable for the new trip, they decided lease or buy a sturdier boat.
“Unfortunately, every time we thought we reached an agreement with a boat owner, our agreement has fallen through, in part, we believe, due to outside pressure,” said Berlin.
“Though it is a very difficult decision to make, we have decided to temporarily delay our voyage.”
She said when the previous group left Gaza at the end of August, they had made promises to the people there.
“We will continue to tell the world that Israel still unjustly occupies Gaza; we will continue to support our friends in Gaza as they work to overcome the brutal policies of the occupation; and we will return to Gaza. These are promises we will keep,” Berlin added. “And, very soon, in the coming weeks, we will return to Gaza.
In the meantime, the group called on countries to live up to their obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention and to take action to challenge Israel’s collective punishment of 1.5 million residents of the Gaza Strip.

UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
September Overview
Internal tensions between authorities in Gaza and Ramallah
are having an increasing humanitarian impact on Gazans'
access to basic services, while Israel's closure of Gaza
crossing points continues, with only a slight increase in
the number of truckloads allowed entry. The ongoing closure
has resulted in the proliferation of tunnels linking Rafah
and Egypt, as Palestinians search for alternative means to
import goods. However, more Palestinians were killed in
tunnels collapses and related incidents in September, as a
result of Israeli military activity in the oPt. In the West
Bank, IDF restrictions on Palestinian movement are being
further entrenched. The IDF resumed demolition of
structures in Area C this month after a four-month lull and
anti-Barrier demonstrations and related Israeli military
activity again resulted in the majority of West Bank
injuries. |
